It is no secret to veteran or even rookie parents that a baby grows and changes so fast. Baby pictures, videos and other mementos are kept by parents to keep the record of their precious little one. One very popular way to keep one’s baby pictures and things safe for the future is to save them in a scrapbook. Scrapbooking has become quite popular lately, and more and more people are finding enjoyment in it. There are many scrapbooking websites, local activities and clubs; there is even record of soldiers scrapbooking during their down time in Iraq. Since babies and scrapbooking are a natural fit, this article will go over some thoughts about saving your baby’s memories in a scrapbook.

Organization is one of the key aspects to putting together a good scrapbook. More than likely, there will be tons of pictures taken of your baby, so material on hand may not be so much of an issue as making difficult choices. The good thing is that you need not stop at one scrapbook; you may decide that you would like to categorize scrapbooks by age, special events or almost anything. The possibilities are nearly endless, but the key is to have an idea in mind.

As you begin your scrapbooking journey, think of your scrapbook as telling a story. What do you want your story to tell? Some may start with the ultrasound image and go from there; however, you may wish to begin even earlier, such as when mom and dad met. Notes from a journal or perhaps some special cards from the baby shower may round out the story nicely. For your baby, and maybe even your baby’s grandchildren, it may be nice to include things that you were thinking that cannot be determined by pictures alone, such as what went into naming him or her. This scrapbook, after all, is the story of your baby and his or her place in the family, so the more enlightening it is the better.

It almost goes without saying that you will be recording your baby’s firsts for your baby’s scrapbook. One way to make firsts even more special is to include some witness statements. That sounds a little legalistic; let’s go with the impression of someone who beholds the precious occasion, such as first steps at grandma’s house. This gives a more complete picture of your baby’s life, as everyone sees things differently; it is nice to have multiple perspectives of the same story to paint the picture.

What could be more fun and rewarding than capturing your baby’s special moments throughout his or her young life? It can bring mixed emotions as your baby passes milestones in life, but keeping a comprehensive story can do wonders to alleviate some of the down side of the process of your little one growing up. Scrapbooking is a wonderful way to compile your baby’s, as well as your family’s story for generations to come, and it will be a fulfilling project in which the entire family can get involved.
